Industrial Mechanic

Duration of training: 3.5 years – training takes place at the workplace, the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (inter-company training) and vocational school.
Field of work: The industrial mechanic works in the commercial sector of industry and is responsible for the assembly, maintenance and repair of technical equipment, machines and systems. They are able to construct mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems and restore them to working order in the event of faults. Industrial mechanics manufacture small components from metal or plastic, assemble these into sub-assemblies and, in turn, assemble complete devices from them. They instruct customers and colleagues on how to use the equipment and monitor the production process. Industrial mechanics are therefore versatile and can be deployed in many different areas within a company.

Professional skills:

  • Manufacture and assembly of mechanical components and sub-assemblies according to technical drawings
  • Construction and installation of tools, machines and production equipment
  • Operation of machine tools
  • Quality control of production and final assembly
  • Testing and commissioning of machines and systems
  • Repair and maintenance of machines and technical systems
  • Planning and management of work processes

Mechatronics Technician

Duration of training: 3.5 years – training takes place at the workplace, the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (inter-company training) and vocational school.
Field of work: Mechatronics engineers work on the assembly and maintenance of complex machines, plant and systems in plant and mechanical engineering. Mechatronics engineers carry out their duties at various locations, primarily in workshops and production halls or in the service sector, working independently in accordance with documentation and instructions whilst observing the relevant regulations and safety provisions. In doing so, they often work as part of a team. They coordinate their work with upstream and downstream departments. Mechatronics technicians are qualified electricians within the meaning of accident prevention regulations.

Professional skills:

  • plan and manage work processes, monitor and evaluate work results, and apply quality management systems
  • machine mechanical parts and assemble sub-assemblies and components into mechatronic systems
  • install electrical assemblies and components
  • measure and test electrical parameters
  • install and test hardware and software components
  • set up and test electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic control systems
  • ‘program’ mechatronic systems
  • assemble and dismantle machines, systems and plant, transport and secure them
  • test the functions of mechatronic systems and adjust them
  • Handover mechatronic systems
